The Seven-Island Sea: Tuscan Coast & Tuscan Archipelago Yacht Charters
Tuscan Coast & Tuscan Archipelago Yacht Charter
A Tuscan Coast and Tuscan Archipelago yacht charter connects elegant mainland ports with an island world of fortified harbours, forested mountains, secluded coves, ancient ruins, and remarkably varied seabeds. From Capraia in the north to Giannutri in the south, each island offers a distinct landscape and identity.
At the centre of the region lies Elba, the largest island in the Tuscan Archipelago, with approximately 147 kilometres of coastline. Its shores shift between pale pebble beaches, golden sand, mineral-dark coves, wooded promontories, and historic ports such as Portoferraio, Marciana Marina, and Porto Azzurro.
Beyond Elba, Capraia, Pianosa, Giglio, Giannutri, Montecristo, and Gorgona form a protected network of islands rich in wildlife, maritime history, archaeological remains, and exceptional opportunities for swimming, snorkelling, and diving. To the south, Monte Argentario and the harbours of Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano provide a sophisticated mainland gateway to Giglio and Giannutri.

Why Tuscan Coast & Tuscan Archipelago Is a Perfect Yacht Charter Area
The Tuscan Archipelago offers genuine island-hopping without sacrificing cultural depth or sophisticated time ashore. Guests can begin the day swimming beneath an undeveloped headland, enjoy lunch in a traditional fishing harbour, and spend the evening exploring fortified towns, waterfront restaurants, and historic piazzas.
Elba provides enough variety to anchor an entire week-long itinerary. Portoferraio offers history and substantial harbour facilities, Marciana Marina brings a more intimate fishing-village atmosphere, and Porto Azzurro combines a sheltered bay with a lively waterfront and access to eastern Elba’s coves.
The surrounding islands allow the itinerary to be tailored around the yacht and preferred pace. A northern route may combine the mainland coast, Capraia, and Elba, while a southern itinerary can connect Elba with Pianosa, Giglio, Giannutri, Porto Ercole, and Porto Santo Stefano. Larger motor yachts can comfortably link more distant islands, while sailing yachts and catamarans are particularly well suited to slower exploration and extended time at anchor.
The protected status of the archipelago is central to its appeal, but it also requires careful planning. Access, navigation, anchoring, landing, swimming, and shore visits are regulated differently around islands such as Pianosa and Montecristo. Montecristo is subject to particularly strict authorization, while private navigation within the protected waters around Pianosa is heavily restricted unless specific permission applies. The captain must confirm current regulations and permits before including these islands in the route.
